ANANYA BHAT

MVHS '18 Alumna

Two MVHS ‘18 alumnae, Ananya Bhat and Emma Lam, met up at Cupertino’s Memorial Park. And as coincidence would have it, they were also El Estoque alumnae, mentioning that as they drove past MVHS that day, they had reminisced about finding a home in A111, the journalism classroom.

“Right now, we were just talking, [and] there were two topics that we were talking about. We were talking about our own universities and their lack of action and things that they are just bad at. We were also talking about [how] because of partially quarantine, partially where we live, we just don’t [directly] experience that [many] interactions with white supremacists or people who believe in that stuff. So it kind of feels out of sight [and] out of mind. We’re like, ‘Oh there’s a few of those people out there, over there out there, and they spew their hate but we’re greater.’ Or not that we’re greater, but there’s more people who don’t believe in that. And then we see things like yesterday and what happened at the Capitol, and we are just reminded that this is actually, how many people believe in that sh*t, and it’s kind of terrifying. I don’t know, I feel like we don’t remember that and then we see this kind of stuff happening, and we see the internet, and we’re like, ‘Oh God, it’s still a problem. It’s such a big problem. It’s terrifying.’”
