“My life is centered on robotics right now; most of my free time goes into working on robotics. I have multiple calls a day, and I have multiple projects I’m working on [and I’m] planning summer programs through robotics. I am on the mechanical team, which [is] the people who build the robots, and we are teaching the rookies the basic skills and modeling computer designs (something I am passionate about). We are working on a rookie CADathon, and on my electrical team we are working on sensors and a research and development project. I am researching a certain sensor called the halo-effect.Through robotics, my teammate and I are a representative for our robotics team in our district, and we are all working on attending FRC (First Robotics Competition field), which is a competition we attend every single year. There are certain awards like the Chairman's Award and the Woodie Flowers Award, and they are each based on different qualities of a team; the Chairman's Award is given to the team with the greatest community impact, while the Woodie Flowers award is given to whoever replicated [Flowers’] standards the best. The MVHS team won the Chairman's Award about two years ago, and last year we placed second in our region, qualifying to World, which is the next tier of the tournament, something we haven’t qualified for in four years. However, due to COVID-19, the tournament was cancelled which was really disappointing.”
